Original & Unique Technologies

The new gas separation membrane modules are built on decades of experience from Nitto's water treatment technologies.
The proprietary membrane coating formulation enhances both gas separation efficiency and throughput.
The volume production of the membrane elements adheres to Nitto's highest standards of quality assurance.

Pilot Demonstration of the Membrane-Based Carbon Capture System

Nitto is conducting CO2 separation verification testing its Shiga plant in Japan, a key manufacturing base which supports Nitto's membrane manufacturing. The pilot demonstration system separates low concentrations of CO2 contained in the combustion exhaust gasses emitted from a boiler unit at the production plant. The demonstration equipment consists of eight-inch size elements, heat exchangers for cooling gasses and a vacuum pump to power the separation process.

Proprietary CO₂ Capture Performance Simulation

Nitto Denko designed its own proprietary CO2 capture simulation software. Based on the site-specific flue gas emission conditions, such as CO2 content and flow rate as well as the target gas separation objectives, i.e., CO2 permeate purity and recovery rate, the carbon capture performance can be assessed.

CO₂ conversion to formic acid

Through joint research with an overseas academic institution, Nitto has established a unique CO2 conversion catalyst technology.
Nitto has launched an initiative to produce green formic acid from biomass-derived CO2
This effort aims the introduction of carbon-negative formic acid for the livestock industry.

Solvent Separation Membrane

Nitto is developing a new wastewater treatment membrane technology that selectively removes organic solvent contaminations.
Focusing on Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), a common solvent used in the microelectronics and pharmaceutical industry,
solvent contaminations can be selectively removed from wastewater streams. The separated IPA enables the recovery of
the solvent as well as the water reclamation. Nitto is currently conducting in-house demonstrations of this technology as an
example to its dedication towards circular economy.
