Stretching technology is used to modify the properties
of plastic film by aligning the molecules in heated
plastic film through stretching it. When stretching
strength is applied in one direction then this
is referred to as uniaxial stretching, while stretching
in two directions is called biaxial stretching.
At Nitto Denko we use precision stretching
technology especially in optical films such as
retardation films, which increase viewing angle,
and polarizing films, both of which are essential
in products such as LCDs.
This technology is also used in the
production of porous films such as those used in
filters to separate foreign objects while still
providing permeability.

Through
stretching it is possible to align the molecules
in PVA and realize a polarizing function.
