Questions about the Product

Is the thermal insulation performance better than using multi-layered glass?
While not reaching the level of multi-layered glass, the film can offer heat insulation, prevention of glass scattering and a cut in UV transmittance—properties that multi-layered glass does not have.
Is film application possible for all types of glass?
Films can be applied on any type of glass with a smooth surface. To ascertain the risk of thermal cracking, please contact the film application shops, etc., in advance.
What is thermal cracking?
What are the cleaning procedures?
Avoid dry wiping. For glass cleaning, spray water or a small amount (approx. 0.1%) of neutral detergent in water, then wipe with a soft cotton cloth or a rubber squeegee for glass cleaning. For other instructions, please see “Cautions” in the Catalogue.
Is there any limitation on service temperature range?
Please use under the environmental conditions typical of ordinary buildings.
Is outer application possible?
No, this product is designed for inner application. Please apply to the inside.
Can films be applied to polycarbonate or acrylic boards?
If films are applied to boards of resins such as polycarbonate or acrylic resin, peeling and floating can occur due to gases emanating from the resins. This product is intended for use on glass.
Does this product have an electronic wave shielding effect? Is there any interference with mobile phone communications?
This product possesses electronic wave shielding performance. If used over the entire surface of a building, the product can affect mobile phone communication in the building. However, because electronic waves pass through buildings at portions other than windows, film application to windows (part of a building) will not completely block electronic waves. Therefore, communication disturbance is unlikely in typical cases.
Does this product have a dew condensation prevention effect?
Although PENJEREX has no dew condensation prevention effect, it has been shown to suppress dew formation, thus reducing the dripping of condensed water.

Does this product have a soundproofing effect?
No, this product has no soundproofing effect.
What is the durability of this product?
Normally, this product will remain intact for 10 to 15 years when used with inner application. This is not a warranted duration, however. Use under severe environmental conditions can shorten the service life or affect appearance or performance.

What is the Heat Transmission Coefficient?
It is an index of thermal insulation performance, defined as the amount of heat transmitted per m2 of glass in 1 hour on the condition of a temperature difference of 1℃ between both sides of the glass (unit of measurement: W/m2・K). As the value decreases, heat is less likely to be transmitted and thermal insulation performance increases.
What is visible light transmittance?
It is an index of the brightness of solar radiation entering a room. If light transmittance is 70% or more, the presence of the film is barely perceivable.
What is the solar heat gain coefficient?
It is an index of effectiveness for solar heat insulation, indicating the ratio of heat entering a room to the amount of incident heat in glass (sum of heat directly passing through the glass and radiant heat entering the room from the warmed glass). Solar heat-cutting performance increases with decreasing solar heat gain coefficient.
What is the shielding coefficient?
This is an index of the effects in shielding solar heat. With a shielding coefficient of 1.0 for 3 mm transparent plate glass, the index is calculated by dividing the solar heat gain coefficient for film-applied glass by the solar heat gain coefficient for 3 mm transparent plate glass. Smaller values indicate higher solar heat-cutting capacity.
What is thermal cracking?
When the glass in a window is exposed directly to solar radiation, it absorbs heat, resulting in increased temperature and expansion, whereas the portion around the glass embedded in the sash is not exposed to solar radiation and hence does not expand.
For this reason, tension stress occurs around the glass. Tension stress exceeding the maximum allowance of the glass edge portion causes thermal cracking. When applying a film to glass with a high solar radiation absorption ratio, increased temperature differences compared to the portion around the glass increases the likelihood of thermal cracking.
