Press Release 2011

Nitto’s medical production base now resumes operation

Japan's leading diversified materials manufacturer Nitto Denko Corporation announced today its Tohoku Plant, the production base for the company’s medical specialties, has resumed operation.
Located in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, one of the most-impacted areas of Japan by the March 11 disaster, Tohoku Plant is the biggest in terms of employee headcounts, 512, among eight Nitto Denko plants and branches in the quake-hit region. With essential utilities including power and water supplies now back in place, almost all necessary inspections on the plant’s buildings and facilities have been finished. Some of the production lines for medical-related offerings have been rebooted, while some remaining recovery works were still being carried out. At the start of Japanese fiscal year 2011, on April 1, nearly 90% of the plant employees were present at their now-officially-reopened workplace.
Meanwhile, Kanto Plant (Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture) specializing in the manufacturing of fluoroplastic-related products, has been operationg under the adjusted production schedule due to the rolling blackouts.
As already reported in the news release dated March 18, there has been no damage caused to the buildings and facilities of all other Nitto Denko manufacturing plants, in- and ex- Japan. However, concerning raw materials for some of Nitto products sourced from suppliers in quake-stricken areas, supply uncertainty has started to be felt. The company is already seeking for other potential sources to avoid shortages that might shut production. Nitto Denko will keep striving for graspnig the situation to a fuller extent, and any significant updates regarding this matter will be announced in a timely manner.
