Japan's leading diversified materials company Nitto Denko Corporation and major pharmaceuticals manufacturer Eisai announced today that the two parties have reached an agreement to terminate the joint development agreement on a transdermal patch formulation for the Alzheimer's disease treatment, Aricept®.
Nitto Denko and Eisai have been jointly developing a transdermal patch formulation of Aricept® pursuant to the agreement signed on May 10, 2006. However, after a re-evaluation of the progress and exploring the future direction of the joint development of this formulation as several years have passed since the joint development was initiated, both parties agreed to terminate the agreement this time.
Even after this termination, Nitto Denko intends to actively engage in the development of transdermal patch formulations for not only treating Alzheimer's disease but also other medical disorders, based on its own transdermal patch technology platform.
