Nitto Denko Corporation has developed a double coated adhesive tape to fasten window panels of cellular telephones. The double coated adhesive tape is primarily used to firmly fasten acrylic window panels to UV coated surfaces of cellular telephone frames. The tape uses an impact-resistant quality adhesive that bonds well to keep the window panel from coming off if the phone is dropped or stress is applied. Use of UV coating for cellular telephones is expected to increase. The product offers better bonding reliability for window panels while reducing cost to the customer.
Use of UV coating for cellular telephone frames is on the rise recently because it offers better resistance to scratching, handling damage as well as better design and productivity. Low molecular weight constituents have been added to UV coating to prevent adherence to the coating. Because the additives stand out from the coating surface, existing double coated tapes were unable to offer sufficient bonding performance.
In order to fasten window panels with existing double coated tape, the work had to be masked when applying UV coating to eliminate parts of parts of the coating where the window panel was to be fastened. This method however involves the cost of masking, increases the number of processes, and resulted in strike through of the UV coating. We therefore developed a double coated adhesive tape that adheres firmly to UV coating surfaces to solve these problems.

Uses a special adhesive that can bond with an adhesive-resistant constituent (silicon) that is unevenly distributed in UV coating surfaces. Offers adhesive performance superior to that of the masking method used for conventional double coated tapes.
Eliminates the masking process required for conventional double coated tapes and therefore eliminates the number of processes required.
