Product Information

Masking tape for painting that doesn't use organic solvents in its manufacture to go on sale

Industrial Products Division, Tape-Material Business Sector

9.10.2002

Nitto Denko Corporation has newly developed No. 720A masking tape for painting in residential construction and renovation. This product uses absolutely no organic solvents in its manufacture, so it is environment-friendly and does not release organic solvents into the atmosphere. Development of special acrylic adhesive improves adherence and resistance of UV rays while offering both ease of rewinding and ability to apply to its own back.

Background of product development

Organic solvents are usually used in the manufacture of adhesive tape and could have a negative impact on the environment if released into the atmosphere. In order to reduce the amount of toxic chemical substances such as organic solvents discharged, Nitto Denko has been working on reducing the amount of toxic chemical substances used in the manufacturing process as a source measure since 1970.
No. 720A masking tape for painting was developed as a part of those efforts. It uses absolutely no organic solvents in its manufacture and organic solvents are not discharged into the atmosphere. We plan to continue to develop adhesive tapes that use no organic solvents.
The new acrylic adhesive we have developed realizes better adherence to various substrates and improved resistance to UV rays. In addition to this, it offers both ease of rewinding and ability to apply to its own back, which was not possible with conventional acrylic adhesive tapes.

Product Structure

Product Characteristics

1)  Environment-friendly

Uses absolutely no organic solvents in its manufacture, so organic solvents are not released into the atmosphere.
Doesn°t use interleaving paper, so excessive waste is not produced when using the tape. (Interleaving paper: Paper used to cut surfaces does not stick to each other.) Tape uses Japanese paper as a base material. Does not produce toxic gases when incinerated after using.

2)  Enhances work efficiency.

Because it is easy to rewind, it makes the worker's job easier to perform.
Can be applied to tape's own back side.

3)  Exhibits superior adherence to a wide variety of substrates.

Can be used on a wide variety of substrates including smooth surfaces, uneven surfaces, rough surfaces, wallpaper and wood. The tape is not easily penetrated by organic solvents in the paint, so it maintains superior adhesive performance.

4)  Exhibits superior peeling ease.

When tape is peeled after spray painting, the tape comes off clean leaving minimal residue on the substrate.
Because the tape uses Japanese paper base material, it doesn' t tear easily when peeled, thus enhancing work efficiency.
