Nitto Denko Corporation has just placed on sale its e No. 690, waterproof, airtight double coated adhesive tape for sealing bedding used for residential windows, doors and sashes. The tape is applied to sash frames and posts when installing sashes. A moisture permeable waterproof sheet is fastened on the back side.
More than 80 percent of rainwater that penetrates houses comes in from between the sash and wall. This requires construction that can better maintain reliable waterproofing for an extended period of time.
Waterproof, airtight double coated adhesive tape, No. 690 was developed to meet this need. This tape has two different types of butyl rubber adhesive. The first side has is able to reliably adhere to materials ranging from aluminum (flat side) to wood or plywood (rough side); the second side adheres to moisture permeable waterproof sheets while minimizing wrinkles. The butyl rubber adhesive has less variation in adhesive strength than rubber asphalt adhesive over a period of years, and maintains strong adherence (waterproof reliability).
By using plastic film as a base material, the tape takes to the substrate it is allied to well and enhances level difference absorption due to tape floating caused by sash lip and screw heads.

*The figure shows an example of the existing method (siding finish).
It can also be used for 2 x 4 / panel construction and mortar finishing.
Because it uses butyl rubber adhesive, it maintains adhesive strength longer than acrylic or rubber asphalt adhesives.
Exhibits superior adherence to rough plywood (conifer/OSB) used for 2 x 4 and panel construction. Suitable for a wide range of bed materials.
For the first time adherence of butyl rubber adhesive has been enhanced to prevent wrinkles in moisture permeable waterproof sheets.
Plastic base material that takes well to the material to which it is applied offers superior level difference absorption. Minimizes tape floating due to sash lips and screw heads, thereby providing more reliable waterproofing.
Exhibits superior low temperature adherence compared to existing butyl rubber and acrylic adhesives, making it ideal for use in frigid areas and winter construction. At the same time, it also offers better holding power than butyl rubber and acrylic adhesives.
