Masking tape for sealing to go on sale

Industrial Products Division, Tape-Material Business Sector

5.2.2002

Nitto Denko Corporation has just placed on sale its Super Sealing Tape No. 727, a masking tape used for sealing joints. The tape is primarily used finishing siding board joints when filling with sealant. Nitto Denko boasts the largest share of the market for masking tape used for construction and painting in the country. The company plans next to expand to masking tape for sealing.

Background of product development

In the market for residential siding, ceramic industry siding board has become widely used in recent years because it shortens construction periods and looks good. The demand for masking tape to seal siding board joints is therefore expected to grow. Particularly because ceramic industry siding board has uneven or rough surface like sanded board, there have been problems with adherence and straightness of masking tape. There have also been problems with tape tearing easily when peeled due to the primer used when applying the sealant.
In order to solve these problems, Nitto Denko has developed Super Sealing Tape No. 727. Using a combination of newly developed special adhesive and reinforced Japanese paper, the tape takes well to uneven or rough surfaces. It therefore offers superior adherence and straightness, and is less likely to tear when peeled due to the effect of primer.
The tape is also applicable to a wide range of exterior materials (substrates) ranging from flat surfaces such as glass sashes to rough or uneven surfaces such as ceramic industry siding board. This allows builders to reduce the number of types of masking tape needed for various substrates and enables dealers to reduce the number of types they have to keep in stock.

Product Structure

Product Characteristics

1)  Exhibits superior adherence and straightness for uneven or rough surfaces, so it is able to cover a wide range of applications.

Can be used for applications ranging from flat surfaces such as glass sashes to rough or uneven surfaces such as ceramic industry siding board.

2)  Exhibits comparatively superior adherence to surfaces wet from condensation.

Offers better adherence than the existing products in cold places when the work is wet from condensation.

3)  Easier to work with.

Tape is easy to wind out so it is easier to work with. Using reinforced Japanese paper for base material facilitates work by reducing the negative effect of primer and making tape less likely to tear when peeling.
