As our second Green Design Action, we have been staging the UNEP World Environment Photographic Exhibition since October 2009. We borrowed many award-winning works that won in past World Environment Photographic Exhibitions held by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), and each site of Nitto Denko Group is displaying them. This exhibition is scheduled to take place at our sites in Japan and overseas group companies (sites with over 300 employees). Exhibitions Scheduled for FY2009 ◆ Japan ◆ Overseas |

I expect this exhibition will be an opportunity to learn about not only our home country’s current environmental situation but also the international one.

As a global company, we always need to be aware of not only the situation surrounding our home country but also that in other countries. This photo exhibition aims to show the environmental situation and people’s lives around the world. We tend to consider things with a focus on our own lives but I expect this photo exhibition will allow us to think about the environmental problem from a new perspective. Based on this exhibition, I feel there is a large difference in the current world environmental situation between developed and developing countries. The environmental problem is becoming particularly serious in developing countries, where it is closely connected with poverty. For this reason, it will be difficult for people living in poverty to consider or understand the environment unless their clothing, food, housing and education are assured. I once again saw this to be the current situation. |

It is important to be conscious of solutions to the environmental problem whenever we develop and manufacture products.

I received many comments from visitors to this exhibition. They said it had given them a chance to look at the importance of the environment again. I expect this will be motivating for them, and the topic of environmental issues will increase in conversations among families, friends and co-workers, and as a result, the effect of the exhibition will radiate out from this single point in 2 dimensions. As well as reviewing our own lives, we should continue our research into both reducing environmental impact at the time of production and developing products to serve as a solution to the environmental issue. This will lead to a solution to the global environmental problem, I believe. |

Strong appeal sent by photos.
|
I never want to be both a victim and a creator of environmental destruction. Neither individuals nor companies should walk away from the environmental problem and appeals from the victims of this cruel environmental destruction. I hope people who looked at the photos will take action to reduce environmental impact in their daily lives and also socially. |

Remember every day that we can live with the help of our environment.

The photo exhibits showed
the current state of environmental destruction
and expressive faces of children directly affected
by the destruction. I have felt the pursuit
of human desire is destroying the Earth, and
I reflected on this again. The exhibition provided
us with a chance to think about how our lives
should be.

Each of us must act with environmental awareness for the Earth and people around the world.
Looking at the entire globe, there is still a lack of food and water in many regions. So, I felt again that my surroundings are very blessed. With an eye toward the reduction of environmental impact, Nitto Denko produces environmentally-friendly products such as membranes to change seawater into drinkable water, and we are also developing VOC-free products.
However, each of us must act with environmental awareness for the Earth and people around the world. In the future, I intend to actively participate in volunteer activities that serve other people.

We continue to have this opportunity where we can look at the importance of the environment and change something in our lives.
We held the exhibition during the busy new year period, but many employees dropped by the venue to view the photos. In our surroundings as well, scattered garbage is found on the highway. I felt the environmental problem must be more serious in developing countries as even blessed Japan is experiencing such a situation.
I believe this exhibition was a motivation for us to look at the importance of the environment and change something in our lives. Also, I will be happy if we can continue to have this kind of opportunity.

Many employees were surprised by the direct message of some photos.
During the 3 weeks of the exhibition at Nitto Europe, we first exhibited the pictures in our main entrance hall for 2 weeks. All employees were invited to come and take a look, and many were surprised by the direct message of some photos.
One person reacted as follows: "When you see that deer with a piece of plastic in its mouth, you really start thinking about your own responsibility towards the waste we generate." Visitors were also able to look over the exhibition.
After 2 weeks, we moved the exhibition to the central canteen of the factory to give our factory workers a chance to see it. This was a really good initiative to open our eyes. Thank you!

We should all act now before it is too late.
The photo exhibition on environmental issues that we had served as an eye opener for me and my fellow workers to be more concerned about environmental protection. The exhibition shows photos of dead fish on dry river beds and wild animals eating paper trash instead of green grass. The rapid deterioration of our natural environment as well as the air pollution is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed with prompt attention.
Each one of us should do our part to preserve the environment, not only for the sake of our present generation but also for the coming generations as well. The use of fluorescent instead of incandescent bulbs and proper separation of garbage for disposal and recycling are only some of the many simple things we can do to help save our environment. We should all act now before it is too late.
